About the CPS Test

CPS stands for clicks per second. This CPS test, also known as a click speed test or a test clicker, counts how many times you can click the box in the time you choose and divides the total by the number of seconds. A 10 second run with 70 clicks is 7.00 CPS.

The clock starts on your first click, so you never lose time reaching for the mouse. Pick a mode, click the box as fast as you can, and your score appears the moment time runs out. On a phone or tablet you tap the box instead of clicking it.

People use a clicks per second test for different reasons. Gamers check whether they are fast enough for PvP and clicker games, mouse buyers compare how a new mouse feels against an old one, and plenty of people just want to see how they compare with friends. Whatever the reason, the number you get is only meaningful if it is measured fairly, which is why every click here is counted by the exact moment you made it, not by when the page got around to noticing it.

How the test works

  • Choose 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. Shorter modes measure raw burst speed. Longer modes measure how well you keep the pace up as your hand tires.
  • Click the box with your left mouse button, or tap it on a touch screen. The first click starts the clock, and a click only counts if it lands inside the time window.
  • When time is up you see your total clicks, your CPS (clicks divided by seconds), your level from 1 to 10 and your personal best.
  • Only the 10 second mode can be submitted to the leaderboard, so every score on the board comes from the same kind of run and can be compared fairly. The other modes are for practice.

Levels

Your score maps to one of 10 levels. These ranges are guides, not official standards.

Tips to improve

  • Rest your whole hand on the mouse and click with one finger, keeping the other fingers and your wrist relaxed. Tension slows you down.
  • Short modes reward bursts. Many people score a higher CPS in 1 or 5 seconds than in 30, because nobody can hold a sprint for half a minute.
  • A light mouse with a short, crisp click travels less and registers faster than a heavy one with a deep switch. Mouse choice matters more than most people expect.
  • Take a break between runs and shake out your hand. Tired fingers can lose a click or more per second, and repeated hard clicking can strain your hand, so stop if anything hurts.
  • Click with a steady rhythm rather than flailing. A smooth, even pace is usually faster over 10 seconds than frantic bursts that leave you tired halfway through.
  • Test on the same mouse and surface each time you want to track progress, otherwise you are measuring your hardware rather than yourself.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good CPS score?

Most people average between 4 and 7 CPS in a 10 second test. Above 8 is fast, above 10 is very fast, and anything past 14 usually needs a special technique such as jitter clicking or butterfly clicking. Our level table is a friendly guide, not an official standard.

What is a test clicker?

A test clicker is just another name for a click speed test: a box you click as fast as you can while a counter and a timer run. This page is a test clicker with several time modes, a level for your score and a leaderboard.

What is the difference between a CPS test and a click speed test?

Nothing. CPS test, click speed test, clicks per second test and CPS counter all mean the same thing: measuring how many times you can click in a set time. Different people simply search for different names.

Why is my score higher in the 1 second mode?

A very short run lets you spend all your energy at once, so the average is high. Longer runs include the moments when your fingers tire, so the average falls. That is why the leaderboard only accepts the 10 second mode.

How can I click faster?

Start with the basics: a relaxed hand, a light mouse and an even rhythm. Some players learn jitter clicking, where tension in the forearm makes the finger vibrate, or butterfly clicking, where two fingers alternate on one button. Both can raise your CPS a lot, but they are tiring and can strain your hand, so practise in short sessions. We have a separate page to try jitter clicking.

Is a high CPS allowed in games?

It depends on the game and the server. Some multiplayer servers and anti-cheat systems limit how fast you can click, and some treat very high rates as cheating. Check the rules of the game you play before relying on any technique.

Does this work on a phone?

Yes. Tap the box with one or two fingers. Touch scores are usually lower than mouse scores, so compare them with other touch players rather than with desktop results.

How accurate is this click counter?

Every click or tap is counted using the timestamp the browser records at the moment you press down, before any other code runs. A slow phone or a busy page can delay what you see on screen, but it cannot change which clicks count. Your own mouse and screen still add a few milliseconds of delay that no website can remove.

Are my scores stored?

Your best score and level are saved on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to submit a score to the leaderboard with a nickname.
